A product slider for one category, or several

Set Products to Categories, and pick one or more. The row fills from them, in the order you choose. The same goes for tags, which is often the better tool. Free

What this is, and what it is not

This shows products from chosen categories. It is not a slider of the categories themselves, with one picture per category: for that, WooCommerce has its Product Categories List block and you may want something else. If your search led you here with that in mind, we'd rather say so now.

Setting it up

Add a Product Slider, set Products to Categories, and type the names into the picker. Then choose the order, how many to load, up to 50, and how many are in view per device. New products in the category turn up without further editing, in the position the order gives them.

A section with a side image

A row on its own doesn't say why it's there. The Category spotlight pattern puts a picture and a short text beside the row, so it reads as a section of your shop. This helps on a home page with several categories: give each its own band with its own sentence, and don't show one giant row of everything.

Tags are the flexible alternative

Categories describe what things are, while tags can describe why they're here: "for winter", "staff pick", "back in stock". A home page row usually wants the latter. A tag costs nothing to add, and it isn't visible in your menu structure, unless your theme shows it.

For large categories

Loading fifty products into a row doesn't mean anyone will scroll through them. Ten to sixteen with a link to the category page below gives people a sample and a way through. The link is yours to add, in the pattern's text or a button right after the block.

Questions

Can I combine a category and a tag?

Choose one kind of source for a row. For combinations, hand-pick the products or make a tag for that purpose.

Does it show sub-categories?

It shows products. If WooCommerce counts a product in the category, it is shown.

Sample products throughout. Pro starts at $19 a year.
