Questions, and short answers
What people ask before they install it, each with a link to the page that says more.
Getting started
Does it need WooCommerce?
Yes. The blocks show WooCommerce products, and the plugin cannot be activated without WooCommerce. Read more about it.
Do I need a page builder?
No. It works in the WordPress block editor. There is no Elementor widget and no shortcode, so if your pages are built in a tool that does not take blocks, this plugin is not for you. Read more about it.
Which theme do I need?
Any theme that supports blocks. To place a block in the shop or product templates you need a block theme; the shop-wide switches work without template changes. Read more about it.
Where do I start after installing?
Add the Product Slider block to a page or insert a pattern from the Product sliders category. Patterns give you a ready section to change. Read more about it.
Do I still need this if WooCommerce has a carousel?
Perhaps not. Since version 10.2 the Product Collection block has a carousel layout, and for a plain row it is enough. Try that first. Read more about it.
Free and Pro
What is free?
Product Slider, Morph Card and Product Stage. All product sources. Fade, ripple, zoom and glitch transitions, stretch and parallax effects, 2 of the 22 card designs, the picture when pointed at, slider or grid, and the shop-wide switches. Read more about it.
What does Pro add?
More transitions and layouts, four more blocks, twelve mouse effects, the other 20 card designs, the sale countdown and stock bar, and analytics per slider. Read more about it.
Can I get a refund?
Within 30 days of buying Pro, if the plugin has a bug or problem that could not be resolved. Write to hello@gutenslider.org. Read more about it.
Where do I manage my licence, invoices or renewal?
In your Pro account at users.freemius.com. Freemius sells Pro as merchant of record: it takes the payment, sends the invoice and manages the licence. Log in with the email you bought with. Read more about it.
What does Pro cost?
Per year: $19 for 1 site, $49 for 5 sites, $79 for unlimited sites. Or $199 once for a lifetime licence on unlimited sites. The free plugin stays free. Read more about it.
Performance and accessibility
What happens where WebGL is not available?
The effects are drawn with WebGPU or WebGL 2 where the browser has them. Elsewhere the images just move or fade, and nothing goes missing. Read more about it.
Does it work without JavaScript?
Yes. The products are in the page's HTML, and without JavaScript a slider is a row that scrolls. The add to cart buttons are then plain links. Read more about it.
Does it respect reduced motion?
Yes. Visitors who ask for reduced motion get still rows or plain fades, with no autoplay and no moving effects. Read more about it.
Can it be used with a keyboard?
Yes. Sliders take arrow keys when focused, and every button can be reached with Tab. Read more about it.
How many sliders can a page have?
gpu slider keeps a page to 12 live WebGL sliders, because browsers limit the number of canvases. Morph Grid avoids the limit by keeping only the cards under the pointer live. Read more about it.
In the shop
Does adding to the cart reload the page?
No. It goes through your own shop and updates the mini cart, also on cached pages. Read more about it.
Do prices follow my theme?
Yes. Names, prices and buttons use your theme's fonts, colours and button styles in all 22 card designs, with the white text of Poster as the one exception. Read more about it.
Are sale countdowns real?
Yes. They read the sale end date you set on the product, and a product with no date has no clock. There is no setting for a made-up timer. Read more about it.
What happens to my old 1.0 sliders?
They keep working after the update to 2.0, with their block and style. The upgrade notice in the plugin has the details. Read more about it.
