A slide-in cart that also works in classic themes

A round button with a bag and a live count, that counts what is added, and a panel from the side that opens when it is pressed. People can change quantities without leaving the page. The bag at the top of this page is a sample of it. Pro

Press Add to cart on a product, and the bag at the top of the page counts along. Then press the bag, and the panel comes in from the side. A sample: nothing is stored or sent.

What WooCommerce already has

WooCommerce offers a drawer through its Mini-Cart block, and if you run a block theme with that block in your header, you may need nothing else. The block goes in a block theme's header, though, so a classic theme has no simple place for it. That is the gap this fills: the same kind of panel, from one switch, with no header editing.

How it behaves

The switch is off until you turn it on. Then a button with a bag sits in the corner of each page, with the number of items. The icon jumps and the number rolls in when something is added, and shopping carries on: by default the panel stays shut until someone presses the bag. A setting, Open it when something is added, is there for shops that want it to come in by itself. In the panel each line has a picture, a name, a price, and buttons for one more, one less, or remove. Under the total sit Checkout as the main button and View cart as a link.

What it talks to

WooCommerce's Store API only, so it reads and changes your real cart, with your real prices and totals, and does not keep a copy. That is also why it works in both kinds of theme, since nothing depends on the theme's templates. A mini cart in your theme opens the same panel, and then the extra button stays hidden, as one is enough.

About the sample here

The cart on this site is a stand-in. It is the same shape and movement, but no WooCommerce sits behind it: it keeps its lines in this browser tab and sends nothing, and there is no checkout. The Checkout and View cart buttons in its panel say so, and no order is made. Prices are in sample euros. Press Add to cart on any product on this site, then press the bag to see it.

Other slide-in carts

Dedicated side cart plugins do more, with shipping bars, coupons in the panel and upsells. We have none of those. Our compatibility list has what happened with some of them next to our blocks, where we could run it. If you already use one and it works, keep it.

Questions

Does it work with the product sliders?

Yes. Add to cart from any of the blocks updates the panel and the count.

Does it open by itself?

Not by default. Adding only counts, and the panel opens from the bag. Turn on the setting Open it when something is added if you want it to come in by itself.
